Weekly Poll
Do you think the Carrizo Plain should stay a national monument?

Absolutely. The Carrizo is one of the last undeveloped areas of the San Joaquin Valley, a protected habitat for endangered species, and a natural wonder for the public.
Yes, but I don't think it's as clear cut as some think. The Trump Administration should take a look at its status.
The feds should consider reducing the size of the monument.
No. The Carrizo should be privatized. Allow the market to tap into its natural resources.

Summer Guide 2015

New Times Summer Guide 2015: Get it while it's here

The acts are lining up for the California Mid-State Fair, which can only mean two things. You better get your dancing shoes on, and thank goodness it’s finally summer. That action-packed, boot-stomping, cattle-showing, country music-crooning, Wrangler-wearing, week-long event is just the one of many things that will pass as swiftly this summer as trees do when you’re driving down the highway.

And if the fact that it’s already June is any indication of how quickly summer will turn to fall, then you’d better get on it. Leaf through the coming pages and you’ll find a guide to all things sunny days and warm nights can bring to summer memories, whether you’re raising a child who needs to fill those lazy summer days with outdoor action or arts activities or you’re looking for a little nostalgia-like reprieve from the work week—you know, so you can pretend you’re on vacation.

Calendar Editor Trever Dias swooped in to make sure you’ve got everything you need to make wiling away the coming months a reality, starting first with SLO County’s must-dos for the months of June [28], July [31], August [32], and September [34], and then jamming everything he could find into a downright long list of hundreds of activities [36].

So, don’t let all the music, plays, festivals, camps, movie nights, and outdoor and arts activities be looked at longingly in your rearview mirror as something you regret not doing come fall.

We’ve got your back.
